As mentioned, there can be a lot of breadth regarding the type of painting and decorating involved with commercial projects. Whilst most people will think commercial means a business and therefore offices, it can also mean the parts of a business where staff are not sitting in front of phones and computers in an office environment but the building is for a production line or other industrial activity, or warehousing. So, when referring to industrial painting in Ayrshire this will normally mean a warehouse or factory environment. This is a much harsher environment than an office to retail business and as such the type of work and type of paint required in much more specialist.

Whilst most people associate floor painting as something that street artists do using chalks on pathways as industrial painters,  painting industrial floors is extremely common and in fact become a very important method of directing activities and creating go and 'no-go' areas within a warehouse. Very hard duty paints are used to mark out safe walkways, or forklift only routes, within a warehouse these should be very clear, prominent and long lasting to ensure staff can work safely.

Other internal and external painting of a factory will often mean working at a much higher point from the ground. Unlike offices which will have similar floor to ceiling heights from one floor to another, a warehouse may simply have storage going form floor to roof height which can extend to many meters.
